Background of the UAGM School of Dental Medicine in Puerto Rico The Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM) School of Dental Medicine in Puerto Rico is committed to improving the oral health of the population by preparing skillful, culturally competent, and compassionate students with ethical values and critical thinking through education.
The School of Dental Medicine offers a comprehensive four-year curriculum. Several unique academic features enhance its educational value. The curriculum includes extramural programs, small group instruction and comprehensive patient care experiences in several settings including the dental school clinics and community clinics.
We are seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to join our faculty and contribute to the advancement of dental education and clinical training.
Position Summary The UAGM School of Dental Medicine in Puerto Rico invites applications for a full-time Faculty in Clinical Service position in General Dentistry. This appointment is suited for a licensed Dentist committed to excellence in clinical education, patient care, and academic service. The faculty member will supervise and educate predoctoral and/or postgraduate dental students in a structured clinical environment while ensuring compliance with CODA standards, institutional policies, and applicable dental laws and regulations of Puerto Rico. Academic rank (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct clinical supervision and instruction to dental students during patient care activities.
Deliver chairside teaching, clinical demonstrations, and evidence-based feedback aligned with competency-based education.
Review, approve, and co-sign treatment plans, clinical notes, prescriptions, referrals, and discharge documentation.
Assume professional responsibility for patient care provided by students under supervision.
Ensure patient safety, ethical treatment, informed consent, and confidentiality at all times.
Maintain compliance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards and institutional clinical policies.
Ensure adherence to Puerto Rico dental practice laws, including clinical supervision requirements.
Enforce infection control, occupational safety, and emergency response protocols.
Participate in didactic, preclinical, and clinical teaching assignments as required.
Evaluate student performance using formative and summative clinical assessment methods.
Participate in faculty meetings, calibration sessions, committees, and accreditation-related activities.
Engage in continuing education, faculty development, scholarly activities, and community or extramural service as appropriate to the appointment track.
Required Qualifications
DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), or an equivalent program recognized by appropriate authorities.
Active, current, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in Puerto Rico, or eligibility to obtain one.
Eligibility to provide dental services in intramural and extramural clinics operated by the School of Dental Medicine.
Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical practice experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish (instruction is delivered in English).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in clinical teaching, supervision, or academic dentistry.
Familiarity with structured clinical education environments.
Knowledge of CODA accreditation standards applicable to clinical education and faculty roles.
Experience with electronic health record systems and academic clinical documentation.
Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to supervise multiple students and patients.
Compensation & Benefits Salary and academic rank are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and institutional pay structures. The university offers a comprehensive benefits package consistent with faculty appointments.
